Photos I took of the GTFF and Peace Health strike in 2023

On Friday the 13th, October 2023, the Eugene community and GTFF (Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation) organized a dual strike against two Eugene institutions, PeaceHealth and University of Oregon, which they feel have been letting down the Eugene community.

Gravestones made to emphasize the dire affects closing the PeaceHealth hospital could cause. Gravestones on the left and right ends criticize the reasoning behind closing PeaceHealth.

Members from the Eugene community participate in a “die-in,” mourning the loss of Eugenes only Emergency Department, PeaceHealth University District hospital. Once this hospital closes the nearest Emergency room to the University of Oregon main campus will be Mckenzie-Willamette Medical Center, which is about 4 miles from campus, and about an hour and a half walk.

GTFF members lead a march towards the University of Oregon campus carrying a coffin. PeaceHealth strikers follow closely behind. They dress in all black formal clothing to call attention to the losses of GE (general employee) rights as well as the losses which will be caused by the closure of PeaceHealth.

GTFF member who would like to remain unnamed, carries a coffin symbolizing the “death” of the University of Oregon’s public promise. GTFF has been bargaining with the University of Oregon since March for fair wages for Graduate Employees.
